Grow a mo and keep an eye on your health, the Colonel says

A routine trip to the doctor four years ago saved Graeme Jeffs' life.

A hirsute St Albans man is living proof of the importance of always keeping a close eye on your health.

For the past five years, Graeme “Colonel” Jeffs has been a local ambassador for Movember by growing some top lip tuft, raising funds and throwing a much needed spotlight on men’s health issues.

His own personal health issues began four years ago with a routine visit to the doctor to treat the common flu.

“As a cancer survivor [melanoma in 2012 and 2013] I know first-hand how important it is to keep an eye on your health,” he said.

“My cancer was a small spot on my forehead, it had been there for several years. He [the doctor] noticed the spot on my forehead. He checked it with his magnifier and sent me straight to the pathologist for a biopsy.

“Within two days I was on the surgeon’s table having it cut out.

“If not for a chance conversation with my doctor … I would not be here now.”

Graeme will also attempt to clock up 250 kilometres during Movember on his bike or by pounding the pavement.
