Local community groups will continue their campaign against the concept plans for the Melbourne Airport Rail Link with a town hall meeting next month.
Groups including the Greater Sunshine Community Alliance and the Albion and Ardeer Community Club will hold the meeting on June 7.
It comes after the groups held a rally in Albion earlier this month, focusing on the community’s disapproval of the elevated tracks that will run through Albion as part of the rail link.
The airport rail plans include a new bridge over the Maribyrnong River and elevated twin tracks between Sunshine and Albion Junction.
There is no mention of previously promised upgrades to the Albion area or the Sunshine Super Transport Hub in the plans.
The alliance’s Stephen Torsi said the groups wanted to keep the momentum going and get more people involved.
“There is strong sentiment that the flyover shouldn’t happen,” he said.
“That’s a key part of the campaign. We now want to bring in about the Sunshine Super Hub and have a broader meeting, looking at it all more in depth.
“Our goal is to keep the pressure on.”
Mr Torsi said they will get in touch with the decision makers, local politicians and MPs and invite them to the night.
He said they are seeking a commitment from their elected representatives and decision-makers to work with the community.
“We really want to inform the community about what is going on,” he said.
“We really want to get our view out much more widely and we want to bring more people into the conversation including decision makers and politicians.”
The meeting will be held at Glengala Hall on June 7 from 7pm.
