Rail Tram and Bus Union Victorian Branch secretary Luba Grigorovitch is standing for preselection for the Labor Party for the seat of Kororoit.
Ms Grigorovitch nominated for preselection on Friday and will contest the seat against incumbent MP Marlena Kairouz.
In a statement to RTBU members, Ms Grigorovitch confirmed she was standing for the seat.
“When I was elected by the RTBU rank and file to the role of State Secretary close to 10 years ago, I was at the time the youngest woman to be elected to a leadership role in the union movement,” she said.
“Since then, I have received the unwavering support of RTBU members across Victoria and together we have fought countless disputes and won better working conditions through our campaigns, picket lines and rallies.
“Serving as your secretary has been an honour I will never forget, and I thank each and every member who has had faith in me to lead our mighty union.
“By running for preselection, and if successfully elected to Parliament, I will continue to represent RTBU members and continue the fight for better policy, pay and conditions for all public transport workers.”
Ms Grigorovitch is not new to politics, having been a Hobsons Bay councillor and spent time as deputy mayor.
