Green light for licensed parlour

The former council offices in Sunshine are expected to be turned into housing.

Plans to convert an empty industrial building at Tullamarine into an amusement venue that serves liquor have been approved by Brimbank council, despite fears the area is already a hoon hotspot.

The building, on the southern side of Tullamarine Park Road, would cater for up to 50 patrons and be open from 6pm to 11pm weeknights, 3pm to 11pm on Saturdays and from noon to 8pm on Sundays.

It will include pinball machines, arcade games, pool tables and a small bar.

The council said the venue would only operate when other businesses in the area were closed, and would offer a destination for local workers.

The proposal, considered by Brimbank council last month, triggered a host of objections, including fears the granting of a liquor license would lead to crime, drug, alcohol and vandalism issues.

β€œ[The] area already has issues with hoon drivers at night,” one objector told the council.

β€œThe premises are in a secluded location with little or no after-hours security patrols by Victoria Police.”

Victoria Police declined to comment on the permit application.

No live entertainment will be permitted at the premises.
