A new Sunshine adolescent health clinic is helping young gay and transgender people struggling with sexual identity.

The No Dramas clinic at the Sunshine City Medical Centre is run by three doctors – Simon Benson, Nicholas Rhodes and Phillippa Wootton – who have experience assisting LGBTQ young people.

The Ballarat Road centre is catering for people aged 15 to 25 and, with parental consent, children under 15.

Registered nurse Nicole Cross says the service provides a “non-threatening and accepting supported environment”.

“Our three doctors welcome all patients regardless of cultural and religious back- grounds,” she said.

“They have particular experience with LGBTQ youth and specific health concerns that arise in that group. Particular areas of interest we’re focusing on relate to sexual health including safe sex practices, contraception and unplanned pregnancy.”

The clinic operates from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with a drop-in service on Wednesdays from 3-6pm. Call 9312 3000.
