It was a green-light day recently for the Taylors Hill Community Safety Group which has been campaigning for a set of pedestrian lights at a “dangerous” crossing for the past four years.
President Ian Herbert said many residents from the Taylors Hill Retirement Village and pupils from the Taylors Hill Primary School were forced to dodge fast-travelling cars on Calder Park Drive to get to and from their destination.
The pedestrian lights, near the Taylors Hill Youth and Community Centre, were finally switched on last month following years of lobbying from the safety group, Taylors Hill Primary School and Watts ward councillor Lara Carli.
“This is absolutely fantastic,” Mr Herbert said. “So many people have commented that they feel safer since the pedestrian lights were turned on.”
Melton mayor Sophie Ramsey said the community played a big role in having the lights installed. “The installation of the pedestrian lights calms traffic movement, making this stretch of road safer and easier to navigate for pedestrians and road users,” Cr Ramsey said.
“It’s a great win for our community.”
