Australian star Georgia Wareham made an appearance at Sydenham-Hillside Cricket Club to help inspire the next generation of female cricketers.

The international player arrived at the club on Wednesday, September 28, where she shared stories about growing up in country Victoria, hanging around the cricket club with her dad and having to mix in with the boys, before all-girl teams were available.

The event had to persevere through bad weather, with a meet and greet and indoor games replacing the masterclass and clinic originally planned.

Sydenham-Hillside vice-president Warren Hackney said despite the weather, they were still able to made a good day of it.

“Everyone loved having an international player up close and personal, it was a fantastic experience for all of them,” he said.

Hackney said Sydenham-Hillside has been growing their women’s program over the last few years and wants to continue along those lines.

“We’d love to see more and more girls get involved, it doesn’t matter what level of ability you’re at, everyone starts from somewhere, it’s just about getting involved and learning and improving,” he said.

Hackney said there is still time for people to get involved in time for the summer season through either Sydenham-Hillside directly or the Play Cricket website.
