Brimbank council will receive a $100,000 grant to help support local innovations and start-ups.
The state government will invest $2.4 million to improve participation for communities in Victoria’s start-up sector, with the money to be invested by start-up development agency LaunchVic.
The funding is designed to improve opportunities for start-ups from Melbourne’s outer suburbs and rural Victoria, with LaunchVic research showing only three per cent of Victorian start-ups come from outside of inner Melbourne.
Innovation Minister Philip Dalidakis said the funding presented opportunities for new start-ups to get their projects moving.
“Every start-up has a role to play in Victoria’s future, whether they’re from Mildura or Maribyrnong,” he said.
“This investment will ensure regional Victorian start-ups have access to the same resources as those in the city.”
Brimbank council will run the Sunshine Business Hub, a program that will support the establishment of a co-working space within the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre and a program of meetings, pitch events, masterclasses and mentoring support for local entrepreneurs.
Melton, Maribyrnong, Hume, Wyndham and Hobsons Bay councils will also be receiving funding as part of the program.
