Five projects including reserve upgrades in Caroline Springs and Burnside will be funded as part of the latest round of funding from the Growing Suburbs Fund.
The state government funding for the Melton council funded projects is part of a program to help deliver critical local community infrastructure needs for fast-growing outer suburbs.
The council will receive $6.46 million for the five projects, with $4 million of that to go towards the Cobblebank Community Services Hub.
The council will receive $650,000 for the Parkway Reserve Upgrade in Caroline Springs which will match the council’s contribution.
This upgrade will include improvements to paths, grassed areas and activities for children and teens.
The funding will fund half the $900,000 upgrade of Earlington Square Reserve in Burnside.
The upgrade will improve the accessibility and amenity of local open space.
The council will also receive funding for upgrades at Navan Park Reserve and stage two of the Bridge Road Recreation Reserve.
Melton mayor Goran Kesic said the council was delighted with the funding announcement.
“This funding means that vital community infrastructure including the redevelopment of existing recreation reserves, construction of new leisure infrastructure at Bridge Road, and the delivery of the much-needed Cobblebank Community Services Hub, will get off the ground sooner,” Cr Kesic said.
“This is an outstanding result for our community and I’m looking forward to seeing all these projects come to life.
“The Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund is a vital program that supports the critical delivery of infrastructure and responds to the pressures experienced by fast-growing and interface outer suburban areas like the City of Melton.”
