A new Friends of Kororoit Creek project, which aims to green Brimbank backyards and encourage ‘passive surveillance’ among residents, is off to a strong start, with 50 trees already planted at one property, so far.
Fence by Fence approaches residents whose properties back onto the creek, offering to plant along fencelines with indigenous species.
The Australia Day award-winning ‘friends’ group has another two properties lined up, with an overall aim of ‘greening’ one property every 100 metres. “We hope that this will not only make the creek more beautiful, but also encourage people to make the creek part of their everyday lives, to look beyond their gardens and appreciate the natural beauty right on their doorstep,” group president Jessica Gerger said.
“This in turn will help keep the creek safe, with passive surveillance from all these resident custodians of the creek.”
The ‘friends’ will hold their bimonthly meeting today.
