One of Taylors Lakes flagship parks is set to undergo a $3.34 million transformation.
A new activities and leisure area, improved playground, better views and more space for picnics will be included in the upgrades to The Lakes Reserve.
Brimbank mayor Lucinda Congreve said the park will become a hub for families.
“This is such an exciting project for Taylors Lakes and for people across Brimbank who travel to enjoy our beautiful parks,” she said.
“People use our parks to spend time with family and friends, enjoy picnics and barbecues, exercise or just play with the kids.
“Having a healthy, active community is so important to Brimbank. By creating spaces like this we’re making it easier for people to enjoy a variety of fun activities. This new park will make it easier to share this space and enjoy a range of activities.”
The park will also receive an irrigated picnic lawn, a large additional shelter with an extra barbecue, and improved views with a more open feel, providing enhanced safety.
The shared user path on the south side of the lakes (from Kings Road via Parmelia Drive to Sunshine Avenue) is also set to be improved.
The council has tipped in $2.13 million for the upgrades as part of its 2018-19 capital works budget and has an additional $960,000 allocated for the project in 2019-20.
The state government has also supported the project with $250,000 funding.
Work is due to begin in April and the park is expected to reopen in late 2019, subject to weather.
While work is under way, access to the park will be limited.
The playground and picnic areas will be closed and path access may be restricted, however public toilets will be accessible through most of the construction period.
