Freemasons Victoria’s Western Masonic Centre will open to the public next year, offering a rare glimpse at what really goes on behind it’s traditionally closed doors.
The community event will be held on Sunday, January 20, and will include a sausage sizzle, face-painting, music and a jumping castle.
Tours of the lodge room and a short lecture from local masons on the ins and outs of Freemasonry will be included.
Freemasons are regularly asked if their organisation is a secret society, if they wear costumes and how to join.
Western District co-ordinator Emmanuel Marabeliotakis said those questions and more would be answered on the day, with no questions off limits.
He said the group had long been known to “keep secrets under wraps”, but for one day only, all would be revealed.
“The best way to learn more is to talk to a Freemason,” he said.
“There is nothing wrong in asking and you might even feel like joining.”
The Western Masonic Centre is located at 121 Callaway Boulevard, Sunshine West, with ample parking available. The event will run from 10am-4pm with tours of the lodge from 11am-noon and 1-2pm.
