Brimbank residents will once again have the opportunity to learn life-saving skills for free after St John Ambulance Victoria announced it would offer more CPR and defibrillator training sessions as part of its Defib in Your Street program.

Starting from Tuesday, June 24, the training sessions will run weekly on Tuesdays from 10am-12.30pm, alternating between West Sunshine Community Centre and Westvale Community Centre in St Albans.

During these sessions, participants will learn how to recognise cardiac arrest, perform CPR and safely use an automated external defibrillator.

In 2024, the Defib In Your Street program trained 5722 community members in CPR.

There are 42 public defibrillators across St Albans, Sunshine and Reservoir as part of the program.

St John Ambulance Victoria chief executive Gordon Botwright said the results speak volumes.

“Communities with better access to defibrillators and training are seeing real improvements in cardiac arrest survival rates,” he said.

“These are not just statistics. They represent lives saved, families kept whole, and stronger, safer neighbourhoods.”

The return of the classes is part of St John’s mission to save more lives and to build stronger, more resilient communities.

The sessions were also brought back in response to high community member demand.

Classes are free and no prior experience is needed.

Bookings are essential.
