Four hospitalised following housefire

Four people are in hospital after a significant house fire tore through a home in Hillside on Tuesday, September 23.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) and CFA crews responded to the incident on Whitmore Place at 9.21pm to find the single-storey brick veneer house heavily involved with fire at the rear of the home.

A crew of 30 firefighters worked together to attack the blaze, bringing the incident under control at 9.57pm.

The blaze was contained to the rear living areas of the property, with severe heat and smoke damage affecting the remaining areas.

Four people in the house had self-evacuated prior to FRV’s arrival and were treated by paramedics on scene.

Two adults were transported to The Alfred Hospital in serious conditions.

Two children were transported to The Royal Children’s Hospital — one in a critical condition and the other in a stable condition.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation but has not been deemed suspicious.
