Forrest Street closed until May 18

Part of Forrest Road in Ardeer will be closed until Wednesday, May 18 as part of level crossing removal works.

Ardeer road users are encouraged to avoid level crossing removal works.

VicRoads is advising that Forrest Street in Ardeer will be closed between Fitzgerald Road and Holmes Street until 5am on Wednesday, May 18.

Drivers and road users are recommended to use Ballarat Road, Anderson Road and Station Road instead, or Boundary Road to the south.

The works are part of a major project to remove the Fitzgerald Road level crossing by building a road bridge over the rail line.

The Fitzgerald Road crossing will be removed along with Robinsons Road and Mt Derrimut Road on the Geelong and Ballarat lines to ease congestion across the network.

The boom gates in Deer Park and Ardeer can be down for up to 45 per cent of the morning peak when up to 37 trains run through the crossings.

Current network plans involve increasing trains running on the Geelong and Ballarat lines, meaning more boom gate downtime.

Other works recently undertaken include the installation of barriers and drainage, the completion of signalling works and painting of the road bridge.

The project is being fast tracked for completion by 2023.
