Local charity 300 Blankets has still been able to find a way to help those in need throughout the pandemic.
While the charity’s Soul [soup] Kitchen in Braybrook has been closed during the pandemic, the group has hit the road.
“We have been working our backsides off,” said spokesperson Liam Holland.
“We’re a small organisation and have had a soup kitchen since 2013.
“Covid stopped that and we started delivering grocery packages. Some families have been doing it really tough.
“There has been food insecurity and this food delivery service has been a big part in helping that.”
Mr Holland said the charity had seen people reach out for help that hadn’t needed it in the past.
While the soup kitchen has been closed, in recent weeks the group has started making hot meals out of cafe Jack B Nimble.
The volunteers delivered 65 meals last Sunday across the west, with Braybrook and West Footscray the most popular areas.
The charity is hoping to reopen the Soul Kitchen next year and welcome people back.
“It’s all about engagement and bringing love and warmth.”
