Indigenous Australians are being encouraged to reach out to community members as part of R U OK? Day, on Thursday 8 September.

The national day of action was a reminder that every day was a day to check in with your “mob”.

R U OK? “Stronger Together” campaign manager Steven Satour said the organisation wanted to build confidence across community members to ask R U OK? in their way.

“Talking, listening and spending time with your mob could help someone when they need it. It’s something we can all do to keep communities strong,” he said.

In the lead up to R U OK?Day, R U OK? was encouraging communities to download the “Ask your mob, your way, R U OK?” resources from “Stronger Together”, a targeted suicide prevention campaign for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

It includes culturally-appropriate content featuring community voices with guidance from the R U OK? Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group produced by the Brisbane Indigenous Media Association.

“Stronger Together” encourages people to engage and offer support to their family, friends and colleagues who may be struggling with life.
