Twelve apartments to be built at Braybrook will demonstrate the new look of sustainable public housing across the state.
Housing Minister Richard Wynne last week announced the Future Homes design competition demonstration project at 293-295 Ballarat Road.
The homes will be built by two of the competition’s four winners, architects LIAN in association with Kerstin Thompson Architects.
The architects will work with the Department of Environment Land Water and Planning and the Office of the Victorian Government Architect to refine their entries into design models to be incorporated into the state’s planning scheme.
The homes will be a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and will include green space and some ground level apartments with wheelchair accessibility.
“Our unprecedented investment in safe, secure housing will change lives, not only putting a roof over people’s heads but creating thousands of jobs as we rebuild from the coronavirus pandemic,” Mr Wynne said.
“The Future Homes competition contributed such incredible new design concepts and this is an exciting first opportunity to bring these designs to life.”
“These new designs will set new benchmarks in sustainability and liveability, helping create a new generation of apartment living that’s better, smarter, safer and healthier for the whole community.”
