Fire destroys Sydenham church buildings

Fire has torn through a Sydenham church hall and shed this morning.

Crews were called to the St Mary’s Macedonian Orthodox church on Sydenham Road just before 10am.

Residents were evacuated as the fire threatened to spread to neighbouring properties.

The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes and did not impact the main church building.

There have been no reports of injuries.

Fire investigators are at the scene.
