Western Metropolitan MP Bernie Finn says reports of him interfering in a Brimbank mayoral election are a ‘non-story’.

A recording of Mr Finn speaking to an unnamed Brimbank councillor surfaced on Thursday night, with Mr Finn asking the councillor to vote a certain way during the mayoral election.

Star Weekly has heard the recording.

Speaking to Star Weekly, Mr Finn said the recording was of a message that was left before the 2020 mayoral election.

Cr Ranka Rasic was elected the mayor in 2020, beating Cr Virginia Tachos by one vote.

“This phone call was over a year ago,” Mr Finn said.

“I don’t see it as a story. It was just one Liberal party member ringing another Liberal party member, asking them not to vote Labor.

“It’s something that happens all the time.

“I’ve seen first hand what the ALP has done to Brimbank in the past. I’ll do anything within the law, to prevent that from happening again.”
