The much anticipated Sunvale Community Park will be officially opened on Saturday, September 15.

Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said the official opening is the culmination of a community push years in the making.

“The opening of Sunvale Community Park will be a landmark celebration for the local community, who have worked long and hard to achieve this outcome,” Cr Giudice said.

“This new park is the result of many years of community campaigning – the result being a beautiful green space for us to come together and celebrate.

“We pride ourselves on being a ‘community first’ council. This is what being ‘community first’ is all about: working together and creating a shared space where everyone in our community can feel welcome.”

The $3.65 million dollar project includes a skate park, play spaces (including water play), a large shelter for gatherings and events, artworks created by local Aboriginal artists and 100 additional trees.

The park is the 100th park to be developed under the council’s Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan.

To mark the 100th park upgrade the council will give away 100 trees to Brimbank residents at the opening, which will run from 11am-2pm.

The free event will include live music, face-painting, children’s entertainment, skating and fitness demonstrations.

A barbecue and coffee will also be supplied.
