Fifteen-year-old charged with trying to steal a car

A 15-year-old Deer Park girl is one of two teenagers charged with attempting to steal a car from Watergardens railway station on Monday night.

Protective Service Officers arrested two girls about 8.35pm after they were seen attempting to steal a blue Mazda sedan from a carpark.

Police believe the pair stole the car keys, along with a number of other items, from a nearby gym.

The girls have each been charged with burglary, attempted theft of a motor vehicle and three counts of theft.

They will appear at a children’s court at a later date.

Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit’s Detective Sergeant Jason Wallace said police had noticed small groups of two or three youths target fitness centres across Melbourne to steal valuables.

“We continue to work with fitness centres to address security issues and implement crime prevention measures such as lockable storage devices and CCTV.”
