Fault leaves more than 5000 properties without power

A suspected underground cable fault resulted in more than 5000 homes and businesses losing power on Monday evening.

The fault occurred just before 8pm and affected 5100 places across Caroline Springs, Burnside, Cairnlea, Deer Park and Sunshine North.

Powercor crews and network controllers were able to restore power for about 4600 customers by 8.30pm, while the remaining 500 customers had power restored at 9pm.

It was well before the 2.30am expected time mentioned on the company’s website.

Powercor thanked customers for their patience as crews worked to restore power.
