The family of an Albanvale grandfather who was seriously injured in a hit and run in Deer Park is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Nick Topia was riding his motorcycle on January 1 when he was hit by a silver SUV performing a U-turn on Station Road, Deer Park.

His daughter, Tiffany, said he was dragged 100 metres down the road, causing extensive leg injuries.

She said the 55-year-old has had seven surgeries since the incident, including one which lasted 18 hours. He spent 10 days in induced comas.

Ms Topia said the damage to her father’s leg was extensive and he could lose it due to damage to the blood vessels.

She described her father as a family man who would do anything for his grandchildren, who are heartbroken by the situation.

The family has made posters and had T-shirts printed to help raise awareness of the incident.

“We are trying to trigger people’s memories,” she said.

“Once people see our tops they remember the incident. My sister has wrote up something and sent it out to panel beaters and wreckers to get the word out.”

Ms Topia has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to help with her dad’s recovery, and said the family would appreciate any help.

“My dad is very hard working and something like losing his leg will not sit well with him,” she said. “He’s a hard working man and he doesn’t stop.

“My dad is a humble man, kind, gentle, giving and all round good guy. This is our way of helping him as the bills don’t stop and will continue to pile up.

“Any bit helps, we appreciate all the well wishes and prayers for our much loved dad and pappa.”

Police have released an image of the SUV, possibly a Ford Territory, which investigators believe may have had two female occupants at the time of the incident.

Police said the occupants of the car failed to stop after the collision and were last seen heading north on Station Road.

Police are seeking assistance from anyone who saw the incident or who may know the occupants of the car.
