Eyes down and boogie

It’s disco bingo time at Werribee Support and Housing (WSH) … in a bid to raise cash for Wyndham’s most vulnerable children.

Margaret Bateman wanted to organise a fundraiser for the service and decided disco bingo would be a fun way to do it.

“Instead of ordinary bingo, where you have numbers, we have 15 songs on a card,” Ms Bateman said.

“Then we play 15 seconds of a well-known song and if it’s on your card, you tick it off.

“The music is from all genres so the whole family can play. It’s great fun when people start singing along.”

The fundraiser evening comes as WSH faces funding cuts for its foster care and ‘wellness’ programs.

Ms Bateman, a volunteer at WSH, says she’s passionate about the group’s work.

“My fundraising is for local children at risk, mainly through the foster care program,” she said.

“The fact is, WSH looks after the local community – people from all walks of life and they never turn anyone anyway. That’s what I love most about it.

“What happens to the kids on the street or those in domestic violence situations if the program keeps having its funding cut? Where are they going to go?”

Ms Bateman’s goal is to raise $50,000 and she’s inviting businesses to sponsor the evening.

The disco bingo event will be held at the Macedonian Community Hall in Hoppers Crossing. Dress is ‘funky disco’. Click here to purchase tickets.
