The state government announced on June 18, that it will provide a funding boost for events across Greater Melbourne, which is set to attract visitors, boost employment, and support local businesses.

The small and medium events program at the Melbourne Reclink Community Cup event will be held at Victoria Park and will provide support for events across Melbourne.

Almost $3 million will be invested into 122 event organisers to support the delivery of events between June 1, and December 31, to help cover event costs, venue hire, performer fees, staffing and marketing.

Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister Steve Dimopoulos said the government is proud to be investing in the events capital of Australia.

“Victoria is undoubtably the events capital and this massive line-up has something that will appeal to everyone,” Mr Dimopoulos said.

“We’re proud to support an initiative that is keeping our events industry workers busy, while supporting local communities across the suburbs of Melbourne to come together to have fun.”

Reclink Australia received $50,000 to support the Reclink Community Cup, which celebrates a 30 year heritage in Melbourne.

The event raises vital funds to support Reclink’s programs and services, which helps; the homeless, people with a disability, and those who are experiencing significant mental health and financial challenges.

Reclink Australia chief executive Dave Wells said the community cup celebrates the best of Victoria’s community spirit.

“The Reclink Community Cup can celebrate once again the best of Victoria’s community spirit… to raise awareness and funds for Australia’s most disadvantaged,” Mr Wells said.
