An 88-year-old woman was hit in the face and nearly run over during a car theft in St Albans yesterday afternoon.
The woman was putting her walker into her green 1996 Hyundai excel hatchback on St Albans Road around 4.50pm when a man approached her and demanded keys to the car.
He then hit the woman in the face with an unknown object, knocking her to the ground.
After handing over the keys, the woman was nearly run over when her assailant drove off, travelling north east along Stradbroke Drive.
The woman is in a stable condition in hospital with serious injuries.
