Arrest made after elderly woman found critically injured in driveway of St Albans house

Update: A woman has been arrested at an address near where the elderly woman was found with critical injuries.

A 77-year-old woman is fighting for life after a serious assault in St Albans.

She was found in a Willaton Street driveway by a male passerby just before 8pm on Thursday.

She remains in hospital with critical injuries.

Homicide Squad detectives are assisting in the investigation and are appealing for public assistance in relation to the incident.

It’s believed a woman described as being of Asian appearance, aged between 20-30 years of age wearing pink pyjamas or loose clothing was seen in the area around the time of the assault.

Detectives would like to speak to anyone who saw the woman in the area or has information regarding her identity.

Police are also looking for the man who initially located the victim, as he left the scene before speaking to police.

He is described as being of Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his late 40s to early 50s with a medium build, 170-175cm tall, with dark short hair.

He was wearing casual clothing including a dark jacket.

At this stage police do not believe he was involved in the assault.
