Yarraville Seddon Eagles women’s coach Peter Lazzaro has big plans for the side for next year’s Western Region Football League division 1 season.
Lazzaro is on the hunt for a playing assistant coach to help the side further develop.
A paid position, the successful candidate will help out and take charge with drills at training, get involved in team selection, and player development, as well as assist in coaching on game day.
Lazzaro said the club prides itself on having a great team culture, something that the new playing assistant will become accustomed to very quickly.
“The girls that come to are club are welcomed with open arms, then the majority of the time stay on to become our long-term players,” he said.
“We’re a very inclusive club and one that’s incredibly supportive.”
The successful applicant for the assistant coaching role, will have the opportunity to develop their skills further and be part of a succession plan, eventually taking over as senior women’s coach.
“Their input is certainly welcomed in the plan for next season,” Lazzaro said.
Lazzaro said it’s a great opportunity for anyone wanting to expand a career in the sport.
He said based on their recruitment so far, the next season is shaping up to be one of their best yet. The Eagles finished fifth this year in division 1.
“We’ve recruited some good players, we just need that playing assistant now and with our goal to make finals, we’re heading in the right direction to achieve that,” Lazzaro said.
The supportive environment extends from coaches, support staff to teammates as Lazzaro explains the team is always involved in social activities, just recently getting back from a team trip to Bali.
“Support is a bit of everything we do, we’re trying to develop the girls individually and develop the team as a whole,” he said.
The team has continued to build since forming in 2019 with Lazzaro confident they’re ever so close to seizing success in the finals.
