The curious case of a dumped car caused much consternation in Ardeer recently.
The car was dumped recently across a bicycle and pedestrian path on Forrest Street. But despite numerous calls from the community, its removal was anything but swift.
Ardeer resident Luke Farrugia said red tape prevailed over common sense.
“Because the car wasn’t deemed to be in a dangerous position, there’s a process that the council says it has to undertake to remove it,” he said.
“Apparently, they have to write a letter to the owner and it can typically take seven to 14 days to be removed.”
Mr Farrugia said the vehicle in question was eventually removed, in large part because of the volume of complaints.
“The car wasn’t blocking the entire path, but a cyclist coming at speed or in the wet that didn’t realise it was there could easily had an accident,” he said.
“It was also right near a bus stop, so it was a hazard for pedestrians, too.
“If the car is in a dangerous position, it’s removed quicker, so it does kind of make you just want to push it on to the road. There’s not a great deal of common sense applied with this law.”
