More than 170 offences were recorded on Brimbank roads across Victoria Police’s Operation Compass.
The operation which ran over two weekends, the Melbourne Cup long weekend and last weekend, coincided with travel restrictions being lifted between metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
In Brimbank there were 175 offences recorded throughout the operation.
Among the offences were 54 for speeding, 29 for unregistered vehicles, 15 for disobeying signs or signals, 13 impoundments, 12 unlicensed drivers, 11 disqualified drivers and 11 mobile phone offences.
Brimbank police on their Facebook eyewatch page highlighted two of the drivers who were caughts as part of the operation.
A 41-year-old man from Deer Park was caught allegedly driving his motorbike 150 km/h on the Western Ring Road.
When searched police allegedly found cannabis and methamphetamine and he failed a roadside drug test.
He also had a suspended car licence, no bike license, no registration and was driving with false plates.
A 25-year-old from Braybrook was caught drinking a new sports bike, with no license, no registration and no plates.
Overall, a total of 8641 traffic offences were detected across the state, and a further 523 were caught for alcohol or drug-related driving offences.
Assistant Commissioner of Road Policing Glenn Weir said it was extremely disappointing for police to have seen such disregard towards road safety.
“We have caught far too many people undertaking high-risk driving behaviour during this period – the number of people detected speeding at mid-range to high levels is alarming.
“Speed remains the number one contributing factor to fatalities and serious injury collision on our roads. Lives can be saved if people make better choices behind the wheel.”
