Design revealed for $234 million level crossing removal project on Mt Derrimut Road

The removal of the Mount Derrimut level crossing just next to the Deer Park Station is underway with the project set to be completed a year ahead of schedule.

The final design of the $234 million project includes a new 1.2-kilometre elevated rail bridge going over Mt Derrimut Road, a new Deer Park Station and a new transport hub giving commuters safer connections to buses, trains and car parking.

The removal of the level crossing is set to ease congestion for 23,000 vehicles that pass through each day and improve safety at Mt Derrimut Road where 15 boom gate collisions and 15 near misses have been recorded since 2017.

Elements of the transport hub will include a multi-bay bus interchange, two spacious landscaped forecourts, rooftop gardens, a secure Parkiteer bike cage and bike hoops, as well as 150 new and upgraded car parking spaces.

The nearby Fitzgerald Road and Robinsons Road level crossings are progressing well, with all three level crossings including Mt Derrimut Road set to be gone by 2024.

Transport Infrastructure MP Jacinta Allan said the level crossing removals will shorten travel times.

“We’ll deliver a brand new station – and continue to remove the level crossings at Robinsons Road in Deer Park, and Fitzgerald Road in Ardeer, which will make these suburbs level crossing free, slashing travel times,” Ms Allan said.
