A personal discovery last August turned Caitlyn Llewelyn’s life completely on its head.

After finding a lump in her breast, the Derrimut resident rushed to her local doctor in a panic.

“It [breast cancer] came out of nowhere,” she said. “My gut instinct was to freak out.”

“I went straight to the doctor. Luckily we caught it early. The first month was the worst.”

After finishing chemotherapy in March and now in remission, Caitlyn is enjoying life more than ever with a new career path in beauty therapy and a brand new perspective.

“I’m feeling pretty positive now,” she said.

“It [cancer] changed my outlook on everything.

“There’s been a big shift. It taught me to be grateful for the things you have in your life. Any day could be your last day.”

The recently turned 30-year-old will now inspire others with her tale of survival by hitting the catwalk for the BreastWest Fashion Gala at Moonee Valley Racing Club on Thursday, August 18.

It’s the charity’s night of nights, with 12 breast cancer patients joining Western Bulldogs players on stage to strut their stuff.

“I don’t follow any kind of sport but if I did I’d follow the Bulldogs as my mum goes for them,” Caitlyn said with a laugh.

Tickets for the cocktail-themed evening start at $160 a head.
