Detective Senior Sergeant NEWLAN of Joint Task Force ICARUS said, “This morning’s very successful outcome provides another example of the Australian Border Force, the AFP and Victoria Police working increasingly together, and of the agencies’ combined commitment to reducing the harm caused by drugs.”
“Drugs, particularly crystal methylamphetamine, are having a terrible impact on our community, albeit by driving volume crime and crimes of violence, or by contributing to road trauma, family violence and mental health issues,” he said.
The activity was part of an ongoing investigation by the AFP, codenamed Operation KALYKE, targeting the importation of border controlled drugs and money laundering.
Joint Task Force ICARUS is comprised of personnel drawn from the AFP, Australian Border Force and Victoria Police.
The task force targets those who seek to utilise international mail and air cargo system for criminal activity.
