Interior Secrets has come a long way from its humble beginnings.
Founded in 2009 by Bill Huynh, the online furniture business had no staff and minimal space at its Sunshine headquarters.
Today, having long outgrown its original base, the company has a major warehouse and showroom in Derrimut and boasts 32 employees.
The rapid growth of the business has propelled it to number 49 in the
Australian Financial Review’s Fast 100 list for 2017.
It’s the first time the business has been featured on the prestigious list, with Mr Huynh saying it is a pleasing recognition of hard work.
“It’s absolutely fantastic to be featured on the list for the first time,” he said.
“We’ve been growing rapidly since we began and have even recently opened a showroom in Southbank.”
Mr Huynh says he hasn’t finished growing the business.
“Our next plan is to grow our warehouse and showrooms and even establish a base in Sydney,” he said.
While the company has grown rapidly,
Mr Huynh hasn’t forgotten its humble beginnings and credits his success to a number of different factors.
“When we first opened, I wasn’t so much concerned about the short term – it was very much working towards a long-term vision,” he said.
“Our long-term goal is to become a household brand and a market leader. That’s what we’ve been working towards from day one and I think those goals are really important when it comes to success.
“The other big part of our success has been the way we’ve reacted to technology and the internet.
“I’m a big believer that technology doesn’t change us, it exposes us, which means we’re able to be seen Australia-wide.”
Although the company has expanded rapidly in recent years, it still has its roots firmly in Melbourne’s west, with 80 per cent of its staff based in suburbs surrounding the Derrimut warehouse.
