Victoria got a first hand glimpse in the foodie world of St Albans on channel nine’s Postcards.

Chef and television personality Shane Delia visited St Albans to share his favourite places to eat for an episode of Postcards which screened last week,

Having grown up in Deer Park and spent most of his life living in the west, Delia knows the secrets of the area better than most.

“It was really good to get out there with the crew, a lot had never travelled out there before,” he said.

“There’s a lot of mis-illusions about St Albans and it was a chance to show how amazing the area is.

“There’s a really good food culture out there.”

Delia said the food in the area had changed over time, as different cultures moved to St Albans.

He said the food on offer gives a glance into the broader community.

“People aren’t looking at things from a culinary view,” he said.

“St Albans is a magnificent place to come and eat and I know where to look to find some of the best food in the state.

“I’m a big fan of Pho Kim Long who has really good Vietnamese soup and Quang Vinh is right next door.

“There’s a little coffee shop, Hanna Coffee, in Big Sam’s Market and I like going there and listening to the old blokes just talking. It’s a real escape from busy life.”

On the show, Delia also visits Avasii Café & Grill, Phi Phi 2.

Delia said while many businesses were hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic, it was the little businesses that hurt the most.

He encouraged people to get out and visit those stores.

“Explore and check out the restaurant on the corner and give it a crack.

“It could become part of your routine.”
