The Deer Park Club’s recent renovations have been named as Victoria’s best.
The club took out the gong for best club renovation at last month’s Community Clubs Victoria Annual awards and gala dinner.
Deer Park general manager David Thompson said it was a great feeling to be recognised.
“We don’t do this to win awards, but to be recognised for what we’ve done is fantastic,” he said.
The centrepiece of the club’s renovation is its covered bowls green.
“The bowls club has been striving for many years to reach the top premier division. They got there last year and we thought if we’re going to play in the top league, then we need to have the facilities,” Mr Thompson said.
“We could host international and state games here. Most are held up on the Murray River and northern states because they have the weather and facilities, but we’ve got that now too, so there’s no excuse for us to not be able to pinch a few off them.
“We’re about the only club in metro Melbourne which has an outdoor-built green with a roof over it.”
The renovation also has a courtyard, complete with a playground and big screen TV.
“We’re a family club and that’s what all this was about,” Mr Thompson said.
“I think we’ve got the best facilities in Melbourne, if not Victoria.”
