Two Brimbank postcodes will be among 27 metro Melbourne postcodes targeted in a COVID-19 vaccine push, Premier Daniel Andrews has announced.

Mr Andrews confirmed the 3023 and 3037 postcodes were among those in a “broad cross section” being targeted across metro Melbourne, to address the first dose percentage lag.

Burnside, Burnside Heights, Cairnlea, Caroline Springs, Deer Park, Deer Park North, Ravenhall, Calder Park, Delahey, Hillside, Sydenham and Taylors Hill are part of those two postcodes.

Mr Andrews said each of the 27 areas had first dose coverage under 75 per cent.

“This is a significant investment to get more jabs in more arms,” he said.

Meanwhile, health department deputy secretary Kate Matson said 29 per cent of new locally acquired COVID-19 cases were in the western suburbs.

Ms Matson said there were 103 in the Brimbank municipality.

“Concerningly, this rate has doubled over the past seven days,” she said.
