Deer Park Bowling Club has been dealt a massive blow, with it’s dome collapsing in a recent storm.
The dome, which was finished in 2018, is part of the state-of-the-art facility that is the envy of many bowls clubs across the state.
Deer Park head of bowls Mark Casey said they were unsure when the dome would be replaced.
“The majority of it fell down in the storms a couple of weeks ago,” he said.
“It’s still sitting there and down at the moment.
“We’re not sure how long we are going to be outside for, we don’t know for certain. We’re expecting it will be a long time and we will need a complete rebuild.”
Casey said their pennant teams would play outside this season, while he said they expected other events to be impacted. The season is set to get under way this week.
“Everyone hasn’t played that much outside in recent times,” he said. “Everyone is handling it.
“Some events will be weather dependent .
“Everyone at the club is devastated by it, but we will do whatever we need to do to play.”
For Casey, the roof collapsing has added to an already challenging year in the job.
The Commonwealth Games and World championships gold medalist started the role in April.
“It has been a challenge in lockdown,” he said. “But I’m loving it.
“Everyone has supported me and I’ve been able to make the changes I wanted. We’ve got some brand new players in and few have left.
“There’s good culture going at the moment, which I wanted to bring in.”
