Residents have been told to avoid a contaminated creek near the site of Tuesday’s petrol tanker rollover.
The EPA is investigating runoff issues on Steele Creek following the tanker crash on the Calder Freeway in Keilor East.
A 49-year-old Ascot Vale man died when his car was crushed by the tanker which toppled near the Western Ring Road entrance just before 9am.
“Melbourne Water is assisting EPA to contain the spill to an isolated area of the creek so that the remaining contaminated water can be removed,” the EPA said in a statement.
“Investigations to identify any contaminated soil are continuing.”
An information session will be held on Thursday from 7pm at the Niddrie Community Hub.
Moonee Valley council has installed warning signs telling people to avoid the creek.
Water and soil testing is expected to take several weeks.
