A COVID-19 response package, the Melbourne Airport Rail Link and upgrades to the Calder Freeway top Brimbank council’s wish list of items it wants the Municipal Association of Victoria to advocate for.

The MAV has called for member councils to submit notices of motion be considered for debate and adoption at their upcoming State Council Meeting in May.

At a special council meeting last week, Brimbank council voted to submit 11 notice of motions to be considered.

They are calling on the state and federal governments to create COVID-19 health, wellbeing and economic response packages for local government areas, looking at the socio-economic factors of each region.

The Melbourne Airport Rail Link and Calder Freeway upgrades are two of the council’s biggest priorities.

Other motions included looking at jobs and skills partnerships for local government areas, an extension of JobKeeper, JobSeeker, Business Support Fund and Working for Victoria programs, social and affordable housing and reducing harm from electronic gaming machines.

The other motions centre around mental health, support for people with autism, landfill and waste reforms and the climate emergency.
