The spread of COVID-19 slowed throughout Brimbank last week, with just five new cases, taking the total to 28.

While the increase isn’t as high as previous weeks, community transmission remains a concern.

The Department of Health and Human Services says there are 110 confirmed cases in Victoria that may have been acquired through community transmission.

More than 62,000 tests have been conducted to date.

With community transmission a concern the state’s chief health officer Brett Sutton today urged people to stay home this Easter.

“The rules are clear – and they don’t change over Easter: if you can stay at home, you must stay at home,” Professor Sutton said.

“This is tough for many families, but no Easter holiday is worth a life. Stay at home, protect the health system, and save lives.

“This is not a normal Easter. Travelling, visiting friends, heading to the beach or staying in regional Victoria could see all our hard-won gains evaporate.

Police have fined 114 people for allegedly breaking social distancing laws last week, including group of people at The Rebels Motorcycle clubhouse in Sunshine West.

Each was issued with $1652 fines for breaching the directions of the chief health officer and told to move on.

The fines were part of a wider police operation targeting people flouting restrictions.

Across a 24-hour period on Monday last week police conducted 835 spot checks at homes, businesses and non-essential services across the state.

A total of 114 fines were issued.

In another breach of measures, seven people were issued infringements after gathering at a house for a dinner party.

Meanwhile, three friends who were playing video games in a lounge room and did not live together were also fined, as were a group of friends hanging out at a park.
