Woolworths at Sunshine Marketplace has had to close due to not having enough staff to operate it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local shoppers took to social media today, saying the store had closed midway through the day and staff had said it was COVID-19.

A Woolworths spokesperson confirmed that the store had closed.

“Due to recent COVID-19 exposures, a large number of our Sunshine Marketplace team members have had to isolate and follow health advice.

“As a consequence, we’ve been forced to close the store as we don’t have enough team members to operate it. We understand this is frustrating and we’re doing everything we can to reopen the store as quickly as possible.

“We thank customers for their patience as we work through this.”

When the store will reopen is not clear.

Across the past three months more than 25,000 staff members from Woolworths stores in Victoria have had to isolate.
