Taylors Road upgrades are a step closer to happening after a motion put forward by Brimbank councillor Ranka Rasic passed on March 15.

Taylors Road has been causing headaches for motorists as congestion thickens because of new housing developments being built in the area.

Cr Rasic said an upgrade was needed immediately.

“My passion for upgrading Taylors Road is no surprise, I did it six months ago and I thought I would revisit it,” Cr Rasic said.

“This congested and grid lock road needs to be fixed and it needs to be fixed now.

Responsibility for maintaining Taylors Road, west of Kings Road, lies with Brimbank and Melton councils, however responsibility to upgrade the road to accommodate regional transport requirements lies with the state government.

“There is an urgent need of upgrading, there is congestion at peak and off peak times causing delays for commuters in Brimbank,” Cr Rasic said.

“We also need traffic lights.

“There are tens of thousands of homes currently being developed in the suburbs directly off Taylors Road and this is not sustainable without serious upgrades to the stretch of Taylors Road.

“I urge them to upgrade this dangerous stretch of road once and for all.”

Cr Bruce Lancashire agreed.

“It is certainly an important issue,” he said.’

Cr Maria Kerr who has driven on the road for over ten years said it was one of the most pressing issues in the area.

“This is probably one of the biggest issues that we face in Taylors Ward at the moment,” Cr Kerr said.

“The congestion on Taylors Road is unbearable. We’ve also got flooding issues on Taylors Road, it happens every time there is heavy rainfall.

“I took this stretch of road from Caroline Springs to Keilor for 10 years straight and it’s not just during peak time, there is congestion there, it is a fatality waiting to happen.”
