Brimbank councillors congratulated the Sunshine and St Albans Business Associations for orgainising this year’s Lunar New Year Festivals in the council meeting on Tuesday.
Thousands from around Victoria flocked in to enjoy the events, including the very first Luner New Year Festival in Sunshine.
Cr Virginia Tachos said the Lunar festivals brought a sense of normality back into the community.
“It just felt like a really normal feeling again,” Cr Tachos said.
“A big congratulations to the traders of the associations who managed to put six months of work into six weeks and still pull it off, and make it a fun and successful Brimbank event.”
Cr Trung Luu said the Sunshine Lunar festival compared just as good to others that he had attended in the past.
“It means in Brimbank we have got two major festivals for Lunar new year in the whole of Victoria and after two years of Covid Sunshine definitely raised the bar,” Cr Luu said.
“I have been to several ones before Sunshine in Yarra, Footscray and in Dandenong.
“Sunshine definitely lifted the bar and it was a tremendous atmosphere and I hope it continues in future and I know it will.”
Cr Sam David said was also impressed with the debut Sunshine Lunar Festival event.
“We had terrific celebrations in St Albans on Sunday but I thought Sunshine lifted the bar,” Cr David said.
“We saw ederly people, middle aged people, young children dancing in the middle of Hampshire Road.
“That is something that has never happened before.”
