Council to decide on amusement parlour in ‘hoon area’

The former council offices in Sunshine are expected to be turned into housing.

Plans to convert an empty Tullamarine industrial building into a late night amusement parlour with a liquor license could be approved by Brimbank council tomorrow night.

The site, on the southern side of Tullamarine Park Road, would cater for nearly 50 patrons and be open from 6pm to 11pm weeknights, 3pm to 11pm on Saturdays and midday to 8pm on Sundays.

The proposal has triggered a list of objections however, with fears the granting of a license would create crime, drug, alcohol and vandalism issues in a known hoon area.

β€œ(The) are already has issues with hoon drivers at night,” one objector submitted.

β€œThe premises are in a secluded location with little or no after hours security patrols by Victoria Police.”

Victoria Police declined to comment on the permit application.

The council said the parlour would only operate when other businesses were closed and would offer a destination for local workers.

The council will vote on the permit application tomorrow night.
