Council gets satisfaction

Community satisfaction with the Brimbank council continues to improve.

The council received its results from the annual Local Government Community Survey last week, which show improvement across all “core measures”.

Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said the results showed the community thinks the council is on the right track.

“When it comes to ‘overall council direction’ – Brimbank residents have rated our performance well above the average for metropolitan and Victorian councils,” Cr Giudice said.

“This is a significant improvement on the previous year and shows that our community believes we are on the right path.”

Across the seven core measures – overall performance, community consultation, advocacy, making community decisions, sealed local roads, customer service or overall direction – Brimbank’s score increased compared with the 2017 survey.

Council’s top performing areas included arts centres and libraries, waste management and emergency and disaster management.

Cr Giudice said the results reflected significant investment.

“Council has invested heavily in arts centres and libraries over recent years – with the new Bowery Theatre at the St Albans Community Centre, Keilor Community Hub including the new Keilor library, and the new Sunshine library at the Brimbank Community and Civic Centre.

“The results of this survey reflect the very real improvement to services and facilities available in our community,” Cr Giudice said.

The survey also highlighted the areas the community felt were important for the council to focus on.

“Our community rated waste management as the top priority area,” Cr Giudice said.

“Council recently adopted its waste, recycling and litter strategy, setting out council’s strategy to create a cleaner and greener more sustainable environment for Brimbank.

“Areas that need our attention include population growth, community decisions, and local streets and footpaths.”
