Council dives into new pool

The re-imagining of the St Albans Leisure Centre is a step closer to reality.

Council last week confirmed the new centre would include two water slides, a 51.5-metre, 10-lane competition pool, a leisure/learn to swim program pool, a warm water program pool with adjoining spas, water play unit and splash pad, dry and steam saunas, a 24-hour gym, group fitness/function rooms, and a wellness centre including a community program room.

Mayor Margaret Giudice said it was exciting to see the community feedback on the make-up of the new centre start to come to life.

“We know the community is getting very excited about what we have planned for St Albans Leisure Centre,” Cr Giudice said.

“We’ve now confirmed what leisure and aquatic features the community can look forward to enjoying in the upcoming development.

“Each component has been selected considering information we’ve gathered over some time, including consultation undertaken as part of the 2014 feasibility study into the replacement of the centre, as well as looking at population and centre operational and leisure trends.”

The centre will also have a cafe, multiple changerooms and a creche.

The next step for the centre is appointing a design team.

The council is also still searching for a commitment from state and federal governments to invest in the project, which is expected to cost more than $53 million.
