Brimbank council is calling for further support from the Victorian government following last week’s state budget.
Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said a number of projects required backing.
“Significant investment towards the redevelopment of the St Albans Leisure Centre site is a priority,” she said.
“We plan to develop the site to be a great space for people to swim, be active and also take part in targeted programs that improve their health.
“This will be a once-in-a-generation project for this community and will have significant health and wellbeing benefits for our residents.
“It’s good to see this state budget will provide for upgrades to local sports facilities, and commits to support women and girls in sport over the next two years – but we want more surety that Brimbank will get its fair share of the pie. More than 3200 Brimbank girls and women play organised sport and we need support to deliver facilities that will encourage these numbers to grow.”
Cr Giudice said more also needed to be done about waste management.
“We’re also very disappointed that the state government has not invested the landfill levies into developing innovative solutions to the recycling conversion industry,” she said.
“Brimbank has been calling on the state government to use the $400 million of Victorian ratepayer’s money sitting in the Sustainability Fund to get serious about waste, and it is disappointing that this has not yet happened.”
