Council appoints ‘new’ CEO

Helen Morrissey

Helen Morrissey has been appointed as Brimbank City Council’s chief executive officer.

Ms Morrissey has been serving in the role in an interim capacity since July this year.

“I’m looking forward to working with the council to create stronger connections between council and the community and to strengthen community pride even more,” Ms Morrissey said.

“Brimbank is transforming and the city has a very important role to play as the greater west grows and evolves, together with the council we will seek to create positive and lasting change,” she said.

Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said the appointment comes after a lengthy recruitment process during which Ms Morrissey emerged as the stand-out choice.

“We are delighted that Helen is our new CEO, having acted in the role for the last six months, she has shown exceptional leadership and works extremely well with the council,” Cr Giudice said.

“Ms Morrissey was the stand-out candidate due to her knowledge, experience and clearly articulated passion for Brimbank.”

Cr Giudice said Ms Morrissey has been a major driving force behind the council’s community engagement practices.

Ms Morrissey joined Brimbank in 2010 as director of community and corporate relations.

Before working in Brimbank, Ms Morrissey was general manager of corporate services at Maribyrnong City Council and also held a variety of management roles at Darebin City Council.
